Party Time!

There's a party at our house!

We had a bean bag toss with candy bean bags made by JJ! (we got the idea from here)

Addy's party was at 3:00 so we didn't have a very hearty menu... mostly sweets!  My favorite decoration was the big picture of Addy... thanks to Lindsey Smith
We had delicious cupcakes made by LeAnn...
(The cupcake toppers came from Etsy)

...and yummy cookies from Mary's Cakes and Pastries

The Birthday Girl was running around the backyard!

Addy's "smash cake" was a giant cupcake - it's hard to tell how big it is by looking at this picture!  LeAnn made the giant cupcake too!

Buddies... Rachel, Riley, Addy and Me

Playing with the bean bags

Another sweet treat we had was pink marshmallow pops - Kayla came and helped make these on Saturday along with chocolate covered pretzels... yummy!  There are step by step instructions for these here - they were very easy!

One of our attempts at a family photo... apparently it is impossible for all three of us to look at the camera at the same time!

Daddy Jim, Addy, JJ and KK/Sister/Kayla (we can't decide what Kayla's name is!)

Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday Dear Addy, Happy Birthday to YOU!

Getting started...

Yummy!

Go Go?  Where'd the cake go?

Another illustration of how we can't all look at the camera at the same time!  Addy got this cute picnic table from Tucker & Cooper!

I love this picture of Addy & Courtney - she was loving the balloons!

12 Months!

This post is a few days late but I wanted to keep up with all the things Addy is doing right now so we can look back and remember!

Our favorite thing that she does right now is to hide something (toy, food, her hairbow) behind her back or underneath her and then she does her hands in the air in a "where" motion and says "Go go?" like where did it go?  The funniest time was when she tried to hide a big chunk of cake in her highchair on her birthday and pulled this trick!

She is babbling all the time and has a few "words" that mean multiple things.  For example, go go could mean goldfish, gone gone, or where did it go depending on the context!  Mmmm can mean yummy, Mmmmoo (like the sound a cow makes), Elmo, or meow (like when you ask what sound a cat makes).  She also says cack cack for duck, shhh shhh for shoes, baby, ball, bye-bye, hi, up, cup, bubbles.  She can say JJ (my mom) and Pop (Courtney's Dad) and I think she said KK (my sister) on Sunday.

She has gotten a new tooth so she has 7 now - three on bottom and four on top.  The two middle top ones are still really far apart :)

She continues to get better at walking although she still takes tumbles all the time.  On Sunday, she kind of rolled down the hill in our backyard when she was trying to walk around!  Oops!  She didn't mind a bit though!

She likes to hide behind a door or wall and play peekaboo.  She has learned how to close doors which is fine until she gets stuck in her room by herself and can't figure out how to get out!

She still loves books and we ventured out to story time at the library twice this month.  On Wednesdays, they have "Baby Steps" at the library at 10:00 and there are lots of kids Addy's age.  It only lasts about 20 minutes which is about all their attention span can handle.  They read one book, learn a sign, say a nursery rhyme, sing a couple of songs and the grand finale is a bubble machine that blows bubbles all over the "story castle" for the kids to chase after.  It is fun to be around other kids her age - I think she likes it!  She sits in my lap most of the time but she is not shy when the librarian brings out the basket of books at the end... she always walks right up to the front to pick out her book!  Last week she took a book away from a little boy that's probably a year older than her... he snatched it right back!  We will have to teach her about sharing!

She has a new face - it is funny looking - she makes an O with her mouth... I will look for a picture of her doing it!

She hugs and pats her baby dolls and stuffed animals when you tell her to love the baby or toy.  It is so sweet!

She laughs when she hears others laugh, especially in a public place!  If a table of people in the room is laughing, Addy joins right in!

She has had a few cry moments when we've left her in the nursery at church but she is usually okay within a few seconds after we leave.  She knows what is about to happen when we walk into her classroom though and starts hanging on tighter.  It is kinda pitiful!

She can sign more, finished and down, although none of her signs look like what they're supposed to (but we know what they mean because she does them the same every time!).

She likes to dance to the music and loves the song "If You're Happy and You Know It" but every verse is "clap your hands" to her!

She can point out her ears, nose, toes, tummy, tongue, hair, eyes, mouth... she has gotten a little better a pointing out her own nose instead of yours!

Now that she's not eating baby food, it seems like she eats less at mealtimes.  She regularly eats toast, bananas, yogurt, goldfish, watermelon, grapes, grilled chicken, green beans, sometimes potatoes, waffles or pancakes for breakfast.  She has tried eggs a few times this week and only likes them with cheese (who can blame her?)

Happy Birthday Addy!

... and Happy (late!) Birthday Courtney!

Yesterday was Courtney's 29th birthday (yes, his real 29th birthday)... and today is Addy's 1st birthday!  It's party time at our house!

We have been a little busy the past couple of weeks and I have been a bad blogger.  I promise to post pictures soon and I want to record all the fun things Addy has been up to lately so I don't forget.

Bath Time Fun!

Addy LOVES taking a bath.  Courtney loves giving her a bath because she is always so happy and splashy.  One night, he got a little carried away with the shampoo suds and this is what happened...

Weekend recap

I have started this post twice and not finished!  I know it is Wednesday Thursday and perhaps a little late for a recap of last weekend but I couldn't skip this one... Friday we had a party for our friend Julie who is getting married at the end of October!  It was fun to see friends from back in the day that I don't get to visit with very often - it felt like old times!  And it made me look forward to the girls beach trip that is coming up this weekend... yes, say a prayer for Courtney because he will have Miss Addy this weekend by himself!  He is so good with her and loves spending time with her so I know they will have fun without me!  Okay, back to last weekend though... here are a few pictures from Friday...

Yummy food we got from Moe's - definitely the way to go for hosting a party!  They did all the hard part!

Melanie, Jessica, Julie, Nikki, me and Courtney

And then Saturday we went over to Courtney's parents' to celebrate his birthday a little early and watch the Alabama game.  I meant to take a picture of the table - Courtney's mom always has a cute table set up and she had gotten those cute houndstooth hat and red elephant cookies from Mary's cakes to go along with the other "Alabama" decor.  All the football game snacks were so good - Addy even liked the smoked wings and Chick-fil-a nuggets!  Kyle had to leave early Wednesday morning to go back to school and we won't see him again until December so we were glad to spend the afternoon with him Saturday!

I think they look more like brothers the older they get...

We were trying to teach Addy to say Roll Tide!

Kyle brought Courtney this cool hat from Australia!  It looks very Indiana Jones or Crocodile Dundee :)

Wrinkled Nose, Push Toys (and a Little Frustration) and Shoes!

Addy has a new face... it's this one with the wrinkled nose and it makes us laugh every time!
She has a new thing this week for push toys... and yesterday when she was pushing this pink toy around the house she kept getting frustrated when she would run into things and she would push and push like she could move the furniture out of the way if she just pushed hard enough!  I tried to capture her look of frustration...
She is a little happier with how things are going here... but only for a moment.  She was about to hit the wall and get frustrated yet again!
So, we decided to go outside where there are no walls or sofas or dishwashers to run into.  And that worked for a little while...
I love this one... look how determined she is!
And notice there is no doll in the stroller.  When we first strolled down the sidewalk yesterday afternoon, she kept getting distracted by the doll in the stroller and wanted to take her out and love her.  So we found that we can push the stroller much better if there is no doll to push around!  Ha ha!

This afternoon I took Addy to get her first pair of big girl shoes!  The pink and white ones she has been wearing sometimes were on loan from a friend who outgrew them and I think Addy is about to outgrow them as well.  We went to Wagner's and settled on a (non-squeaky) pair that is brown with white polka dots.  I know they thought I was crazy but I asked one of the nice ladies that worked there to take Addy's picture while they measured her foot!  It was a big moment for my girl!
They said she wears a size 4!

Kyle is home!

Uncle Kyle is home for 2 weeks for a visit.  Addy and I went over to say hi last Thursday and got to visit Nanny & Babby also.  Kyle just returned to the U.S. after a trip to see his girlfriend Di and her family in Australia!  We haven't seen him since Easter so we have enjoyed having him home!  He brought Addy a bear that is dressed like a guard from Buckingham Palace and a kangaroo from Australia.  Di sent Addy the cutest kangaroo slippers that she has been wearing around the house!

Addy warmed up to Kyle once he helped her get some of Pop's golf balls to play with.  She walked over to him and wanted him to pick her up... so sweet!

Big Project...

I am so excited!  I got a big orange package in the mail today from Shutterfly... a book of Addy's first year!  I just ordered it last Wednesday so it got here quicker than I expected.  My friend Leah told me about the book that Kelle Hampton does for her girls each year and I decided that I wanted to make a book for Addy's first year (not on the level of her book - but it was a good inspiration!).  I had fun working on this project and I obsessed about it for a few weeks, neglecting to clean the house, cook dinner or wash clothes so I could steal away to the computer every time Addy took a nap!  If you read our blog regularly, you will see a lot of the same pictures... probably because I pick out my favorite pictures to post on the blog so I wanted to use some of the same ones in her book.  It was very helpful to have the blog to look back at each month and remember what Addy was doing at that time.  I hope to do one each year and give them all to Addy one day.  Here's a link to the book if you have a few minutes and want to view.  The text is too small to see on the computer screen (but not in real life!).

This week...

We have had fun with friends this week.  On Tuesday, I took Addy over to play with her friend Riley.  I forgot my camera so I don't have any pictures.  They played inside and we strolled around the neighborhood and enjoyed the nice weather we've been having.  It is good to be able to get outside again now that it's not quite as hot!

Yesterday, our friends Mary-Virginia and Marian came over to play.  Marian is 6 months to the day younger than Addy.  She had fun jumping in Addy's Baby Einstein jumper.  Addy wasn't too sure about having another baby playing with her stuff though and she acted kind of bratty!  I felt kind of embarrassed... what do you do when your kid acts like that?  She's not really old enough to know better... or is she?  I blamed it on the fact that she skipped her afternoon nap... something that is becoming a trend (oh no!)  I lay her down for a nap and she plays in her bed for an hour and a half.  She doesn't fuss... just plays with her bunny and walks around in her bed.  What can we do to get the afternoon nap back?

Marian liked the frog and the piano on the jumperoo!

Marian and Addy... impossible to get them both looking at the camera at the same time!

Today I was trying to decide what outfit Addy should wear and I found these jeans in her drawer and decided to try them on her. She hasn't ever worn jeans, not because I have anything against jeans but she just didn't ever own a pair until we grew into the 12 month size. I think she is the cutest thing in these little jeans! But I don't know if she is a jeans kinda girl... a few minutes after she got dressed, I found her back in her room playing with a blue dress I had left on the chair... I think she was trying to tell me something!

Roll Tide!

Saturday was the first Alabama football game and we took Addy to the quad to tailgate that afternoon.  We have a big group that loves Alabama football that we tailgate with and it was fun to hang out with everyone for a few hours!  This was the best family pic we got on Saturday.  Addy wore a cute little Alabama dress that my aunt Lisa got her last year.  You can't see in any of the pictures but it has little elephant footprints on the bloomers!  We decided not to take Addy to the game and came on home a little before kickoff to watch it in the A/C.  We paused the game on the DVR and watched it uninterrupted after she went to bed!
Addy liked playing with LeAnn's phone

We had blankets spread out under our tent for the kiddos to play on... Leah, Colton, Tara, Brody, Addy and LeAnn were having fun in this picture!

Heath was giving Addy some sugar!

11 Months!

Our little baby is one month away from being a year old... I cannot believe it!  She is so much fun these days... every age is "my favorite" and this is definitely my new favorite.  Here are some things I don't want to forget about her at this age...
  • She loves finding pictures of Courtney and pointing him out... "da da"
  • When she gives you a "hug" (lays her head on your shoulder) she always says "oh" and drags it out like a little sigh - I think it is because that's what we say when she gives us a hug so she thinks you're supposed to do that!
  • She is walking more and more although crawling on her hands and toes (not knees) is still her preferred method of getting around if she's in a hurry.  She can crawl really fast this way and likes to "run" from us if she thinks we are chasing her!
  • She can give you five
  • She still loves books and will pick out a book and bring it to me to read to her when we're playing.  She loves Goodnight Moon and I Love You, Good Night before naptime or bedtime and she really likes Curious George At the Park and any kind of touch and feel/lift the flap books.  When we read Curious George, there is a page with a soccer ball on it that says "Goal!" and as soon as you get that book out, Addy starts saying "Go" and flipping to the ball page.
  • She learned how to shake a shaker for the Alabama football game on Saturday - we are still working on Roll Tide though!
  • She still loves watermelon & bananas.  We have started giving her these little mini waffles for breakfast and she loves those too!  She likes to try new foods... a few bites she has had recently include cinnamon rolls, baked potato, toast, peas, cornbread, Jim & Nick's cheese biscuits (can you tell our family likes bread?!).
  • We are trying to teach her eyes, nose, mouth and other body parts... she knows her hair, toes and tongue (she sticks her tongue out when you ask her where it is) and she can sometimes show you where her eyes and mouth are.  When you ask where her nose is, she grabs your nose instead!
  • She is just so sweet!!

Fly Me to the Moon...

I still remember the "little red wagon" I had when I was little.  It was metal, not plastic or wood like the ones they have today.  And the sides weren't very tall.  It had a black handle and it was great to ride in.  I hope Addy has fond memories of her little red wagon someday!

I got her this Radio Flyer red wagon at the Little Lambs' sale last week and we washed it one day this week and took it for a test drive yesterday evening.  She was not sure what to think at first and just looked at us like we were crazy.  After she got comfortable in her new ride, I found myself wishing her little seat had a seatbelt!  I think we are going to take it to the quad tomorrow to tailgate.  We are pumped that football season is here!
