Christmas in Gadsden

We celebrated Christmas with my extended family in Gadsden on December 17 and it was such a fun day!!  My cousin Leigh hadn't ever met Addy because she had a baby right around Christmas in 2009 and last year couldn't make it because of sickness... and we hadn't met her youngest son, Nathan who is a couple of months younger than Addy.  There were six kids under the age of 10 in the room and it was SO much fun to see them all playing together.  We don't have many young kids on either side of our family so Addy loved having someone to play with!  Since my Grannie is in assisted living and her apartment doesn't have a full kitchen, we opted for Cracker Barrel takeout instead of eating in the dining room :)  The food was good and the family time was so nice!

The highlights for the kids were the beach balls that they use for "exercise class" and spinning around in the rolling chair!

My Grannie with my dad and uncle Tom (I nicknamed him "Happy Tom" when I was little and Addy is going to continue the nickname!  She was a big fan of Happy Tom - we think because she is a big fan of Daddy Jim too!)

After lunch, we headed to East Gadsden to visit my mom's parents.  We missed getting to see my mom's sister Lisa, Steve, Mackenzie & Slate (and of course Erin, Nico, Jordan and Keithon too!)because Mackenzie's basketball game ended up keeping them from staying.  We had fun playing outside and ate lots of yummy food - a traditional Christmas meal - at Grandmother & Granddaddy's.
Addy, me, Courtney, Daddy Jim, Bob, Lynne, JJ, Granddaddy & Grandmother (Kayla was playing photographer!)

Addy enjoyed looking at (and touching) the (breakable - yikes!) nativity scene that was on her level :)

We took a couple of pictures with Grandmother & Granddaddy before we left, after we changed Addy into her pajamas!

Addy is very interested in the piano - she always wants to bang on play it!  The bench had been moved so she thought it was extra fun to reach the pedals!
It's funny how Christmas changes as you get older... I remember being SO excited at Grandmother's house when I was little - my cousin Erin & I looked forward to finding out what we would receive!  This year, we didn't even do presents at Grandmother & Granddaddy's house but it didn't dampen the spirit.  The time spent with family is so much more precious a gift than I ever realized - especially now as I see my grandparents aging.  We are so blessed with wonderful family on both sides and so thankful for the time we were able to spend with them over Christmas!
