Friends!

We've had fun getting together with friends the past two weekends! I am looking forward to lots of fun playtimes this summer!

Fun at Shelby Park this morning with Marian and Mary-Virginia!

Sliding with Mallory at the playground last Saturday

I love Mallory's face!

Addy on the other hand looks a little unsure!

And we can't forget about our "friends" Ashley, Viv, Clara and Katie!

Advice Worth Heeding

A great servant-leader in our church unexpectedly passed away after a tragic accident last week.  The visitation Saturday night was held at our church.  I never know what to say in those situations but this sweet wife, who is always so spunky and sweet, made us feel completely at ease as we tried to comfort and support her.  She gave me some great advice that I don't want to forget... that's why I'm writing it here so I can look back at it every once in a while!

She said she was telling the young wives that came through the (long) line that night that we needed to get busy spoiling our husbands.  She said her children always told her their daddy was spoiled and that she knew they were right... but she said that she wouldn't have done anything differently if she had it to do all over again.  She laid his work clothes out every night for him and always took care of him in the little ways, cooking, etc.  She reminded me that we aren't promised tomorrow and we shouldn't take anything for granted.  I have thought about what she said several times and have had a new inspiration to think of ways I can "spoil" Courtney.

It also got me thinking - society has definitely changed what "accepted" and "normal" roles look like for husbands and wives since this silver haired lady was a young wife but I think it's obviously not working - the world has got it all wrong.  God reminded me of this passage from Ephesians that we recently studied - the Bible is clear that we are to respect our husbands and they are to love us.  If God is love and is the author of marriage... why do I think I know how to work it better?  As a control freak, bossy pants, sinner, this is something I struggle with.  This passage hits me right between the eyes every time.

Ephesians 5: Instructions for Christian Households

21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”[c] 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Phone photo dump

Here are a few pictures from our week:

This morning we met Riley & Rachel at the pool to swim and have a picnic lunch! Addy and Riley played so sweetly with each other.

Addy was ready for school yesterday - I convinced her that wearing heels to school wasn't a good idea and thankfully, she left the glasses at home too!

This picture is from last Wednesday's visit with my Grannie and her two younger sisters (the 'baby' is 74 if that tells you anything!) They enjoyed seeing each other (one lives in Huntsville and the other in Florida) and I had fun watching them interact. I hope Kayla and I will be like that when we are their age.

This is an every day occurrence at our house - Addy's favorite thing right now is to pretend to read books to her babies, to us, or to anyone that seems interested! She 'reads' all over the house, in the car, etc. We laugh because she has a few key phrases memorized from some of her favorite books and she sprinkles those in every once in a while... 'Purple polka dotted lips' from I Like Myself is one I hear a lot!

I put up 'before' pictures of Addy's haircut but never put up these that I took at the salon...

Mrs. Amber did a great job and we are loving the new 'do!

The Graduate

My sister graduated from Alabama last Friday night!  We are so proud of her!  Here are some pictures from the big event.

My job was to get a close up picture but I totally missed her walking across the stage... here is a before and after shot!
Kayla had lots of friends and family come to her graduation!  We were so excited to see Erin & Lisa and Lynne & Bob and it was so sweet of Mr. & Mrs. Taylor to come.

I love my Sis!

Cute cake from Celebrations that we enjoyed afterward at dinner

Kayla with her two best friends, Hannah & Erica - all graduating this year!
Courtney & Addy were sad to miss out on KK's big night... Addy was sick Friday so they stayed home!

April Catch- Up

I have neglected the blog lately - before I forget, here is a quick recap of April in pictures!
Easter Sunday - all our immediate family (except Kyle - we missed you!) got together at Mia & Pop's house for dinner.  We hunted eggs first... even Julie got in on the fun!

We took pictures outside before we ate a delicious meal together!
Marian & Cal came over to play one Friday.  The girls had fun playing outside in Addy's 'cardboard box playhouse.'
Addy got her first big girl haircut... this was the before picture...
Daddy Jim turned 60!  We ate breakfast at the Waysider on his birthday - yummo!  We had sopapilla cheesecake at our house for him to blow out a birthday candle... we didn't light 60 though - didn't want the house to catch on fire!
Train picture from Mom and Sister
Addy loves birthdays - she always gets enlisted to help open gifts!
We went to Centreville last Sunday for a late Easter/early Mothers' Day.  We stayed outside ALL afternoon!  Nanny & Babby have lots of fun things to do outside...  Addy looked for cows...

...and rode the four wheeler!

Addy was SO excited about seeing Baby Sophie... she's not a little baby anymore though!

Addy was trying to make a friend by sharing her doll!

Barnyard Birthday

We went to a birthday party on Saturday for Addy's friend Marian who turned two! It was at the Barnyard and we had a great time! I took some pictures on my phone but didn't get the real camera out of the car!

Addy and M, Matt and M, Riley, Addy

Addy rode the horse by herself (without me walking beside her, that is... Not really by herself!) and finally got up her courage to feed the llama and donkey. Her favorite is tearing up bread for the ducks and she still doesn't care for the pigs or goats!

Petting the baby rabbits... They were so soft and small!

Happy Easter!

It is quiet at my house... everyone is taking a nap! We had a looong night last night with a two year old who didn't want to be left in her room by herself! I am only awake because I have food in the oven cooking for Easter dinner with our families later today...  I am having fun looking at all these fun Easter pictures from my camera and thought I should add some to the blog! I will let the pictures do the talking.

Sun in the eyes... getting ready to go to church Easter egg hunt last Sunday.
BIG basket... not so practical for her to carry so we carry our 'play' basket when it's time to get busy hunting eggs!
Here we go... so funny how at this age they will pass up 10 eggs to get that one pink one they spotted across the yard!  This time, Addy was more concerned about mulch in her sandals from the playground than finding eggs...
Taking a break from hunting eggs to swing with Garrett...
So glad KK came to hunt eggs with us!
Addy & Hannah
At the 2nd Annual Daniels Easter Egg Hunt... getting ready to dye eggs
She had fun helping this year!  Last year we knocked over the water cups before we even got started so this was an improvement!

Beautiful colors!!  Too bad I dropped the whole carton on the way to the car!
Hunting for plastic eggs with Cole...
Got one!

Mallory & Addy - sweet friends!
